Оn January 16, the international SUSTOUKA project has launched a week long training program for national experts on capacity building in sustainable management of the tourism sector.

The team of future national experts included representatives of tourism management organizations: tourist information centers, tour operators and travel agents, hotels, universities and representatives of sectoral national Associations of Tourism, Environment and Hospitality.
The first day of training covered in detail:
– Key concepts of sustainability;
– International criteria of sustainable tourism and successful global cases;
– Sustainable development goals, including localization and nationalization issues;
– Environmental management issues: energy, water, waste management and other aspects
The SUSTOUKA project is aimed to accelerate the transformation of Kazakhstan into a green economy by enhancing the sustainability and competitiveness of its tourism sector, increasing environmental awareness and introducing appropriate sustainable practices and technologies in the tourist accommodation sector of Kazakhstan. The project is implemented by an international and multidisciplinary consortium led by EKOTEK (Spain) and composed of Kazakhstan Tourist Association (KTA), Kazakhstan Association of Hotels & Restaurants (KAGiR) and ECEAT (The Netherlands). The project is funded by the European Union (EU) through the SWITCH-Asia Programme.
